Writing in the experimental and short form of poetry can open pathways to recording observations of place, and open our mind and perceptions to new insights. Whether you have a writing practice or just want fresh ways of connecting to nature, come spend a relaxing day exploring Bear Valley Creek through science and poetry!
You’ll observe relationships between streams and their surroundings, notice the marks of stream changes with storms and seasons, and consider the many kinds of life that depend on, and in turn shape, stream dynamics. As we explore these overlapping relationships, we’ll expand our own sensitivity, understanding, and observational skills through sketching and writing. We’ll look at beauty through science and science through beauty, playfully probing the boundaries of our own categories and assumptions, using flowing water – that most constant and changeable substance – to inspire us.
There will be short walks between concentrated work, including alternating periods of reflection, observation, and discussion. No previous experience with drawing, writing – or streams – is required!
