Pepperwood is excited to offer a brand-new certification course, the UC Climate Stewards program. Participants in this course will learn how climate is changing both our natural and social systems, and what they can do to improve ecosystem and community resilience. We will discuss the latest climate science, practice effectively communicating climate science, and participate in field-based activities to deepen our understanding of how fire and water are impacting our community within the context of climate change.
Through a hybrid of class discussions, self-paced online learning, and field-based activities, participants will become engaged and empowered to help increase community and ecosystem resilience now and for future generations. The class discussion meetings will be online via Zoom and all in-person field days will incorporate COVID-19 safety protocols.
This 10-week course meets once a week on Saturdays from January 9 to March 13, 2021:
– 6 Online class sessions run from 9am-11am, scheduled for 1/9, 1/16, 1/23, 1/30, 2/13, 2/27, 2021.
– 3 In-person field trips run from 9am-2pm and are scheduled for February 6, February 20 and March 6, 2021. Participation in field trips is required and will take place within Sonoma County.
– In-person Graduation Day – Saturday, March 13, from 9am-1pm at Pepperwood: sharing capstone projects and celebrating your certification.
