January 27, 2021 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Join us for a conversation about the fishing industry and the associated environmental impacts

Virtual Coffee Hour with Acterra’s Executive Director, feat. Hope Bohanec

About the Guest Speaker:

Hope Bohanec has been active in environmental activism for 30 years and has published the book The Ultimate Betrayal: Is There Happy Meat? She is the host of the Hope for the Animals Podcast, the Projects Manager for the national non-profit United Poultry Concerns, and the Executive Director of Compassionate Living, a California based vegan advocacy organization. Over the last three decades, Hope has given countless presentations, written innumerable articles, and organized hundreds of events including UPC’s annual Conscious Eating Conference at UC Berkeley and the Sonoma County VegFest.

About the Presentation:

Sentience in the Sea: In this presentation, we will dive deep into the world of fish, exploring the fishing industry, the environmental impacts of fishing, and the extensive scientific research confirming that fish are sentient individuals. Hope will discuss how our sentient sea cousins navigate complex lives, suffer pain, experience fear, feel joy, form friendships, and have individual personalities, preference, and emotions. We will also delve into the details of how we kill billions of fish each year and the fishing industry’s impact on our planet. We will learn who fish are and how we can help protect them and the oceans.
