Webinar: Winter-rainfall Aloes

February 20, 2021 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

| $12 – $17

Aloes occur along the length of the African continent, as well as to the north in Arabia and to the east in Madagascar, but the majority of those grown in California come from South Africa. These are found throughout the country, but this webinar will focus on those from the winter-rainfall region, in the western part of the country (the winter-rainfall area extends also into the southwestern corner of neighboring Namibia).

Join Brian Kemble, Curator, to learn about some of these plants that have long been grown in California gardens, including Aloe distans (the “jeweled aloe”) and Aloe plicatilis (the “fan aloe”), which makes sense because of the climatic similarity between western South Africa and California. Others are more recent introductions into horticulture, like Aloe buhrii, but are rapidly gaining popularity here.
