Formation of Acterra

October 1, 2001

Using resources more efficiently and effectively—that’s a major part of what sustainability is all about and exactly what Bay Area Action (BAA) and the Peninsula Conservation Center Foundation (PCCF) had in mind when they decided to merge and form a new organization, Acterra: Action for a Sustainable Earth. Both PCCF and BAA are well known to local conservationists for their focus on citizen involvement in finding solutions to environmental problems. Acterra has 18 programs that encompass everything from promoting green buildings, renewable energy, and alternative transportation, to the protection and restoration of local ecosystems. Volunteers are welcome and needed for two of the upcoming conservation projects: planting oaks and doing trail work at the Arastradero Preserve in Palo Alto on Saturday, October 27, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. (contact Karen Cotter at (650) 329-8544 or kcotter@sprynet.com); restoring habitat on the San Mateo coast on Saturday, November 3, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. (contact David Houston at (650) 739-0009 or texwave@hotmail.com). For more information about Acterra, call (650) 962-9876 or visit its website at www.baa-pccf.org.
