Avalanche Awareness: Tips for Safe Winter Backcountry Travel

Lead climbing ranger at USFS Mt. Shasta Ranger Station, Eric White has worked as an avalanche forecaster at the USFS Mt. Shasta Avalanche Center for nine years. Tonight, Eric will review the key factors in avalanche formation and accidents, and discuss basic safety information, gear, and skills needed to travel in the backcountry in winter. Come find out the clues Nature provides about instability in the snowpack, common human errors, best practices should you/your partner get caught in an avalanche, and more.
