Long Ridge Winter

Sunday, February 07, 2010
11:00 AM to 2:30 PM

You are invited to join docent Keith Johnsgard and Mike Alexander for a hike along lush Peters Creek, past a tranquil pond, through a deep forest, and up a ridge to open grasslands where you'll stop for an ocean view lunch (unless it's raining). Kids must be able to walk 5 miles with two moderately difficult 0.5-mile climbs on this circle route. The pace will be leisurely with stops to talk about what is seen. Keep in mind this route could be muddy and chilly in the shaded woodland areas.

For this activity at Long Ridge Open Space Preserve, meet at the Grizzly Flat trailhead on the west side of Skyline Boulevard 3.6 miles north of Highway 9, or 3.3 miles south of Page Mill Road. If you are traveling from the north on Skyline Blvd., the pullout is just past Portola Heights Road on the right. From the south, the pullout is near the Palo Alto city limits sign on the right.
