San Francisco Botanical Garden Society presents Plants in Transition, an exhibition of botanical watercolors and drawings by Jeanne Lotta-Sellars.  The exhibition is open to the public daily, July 1 through September 30, 2009, at the Helen Crocker Russell Library of Horticulture, located at San Francisco Botanical Garden, in Golden Gate Park.

The Helen Crocker Russell Library of Horticulture is open every day from 10:00am to 4:00pm, except for major holidays. A special evening reception for the artist will be held at the Library on Thursday, July 9, from 5:00 to 7:00pm.

Jeanne Lotta-Sellars is a Bay Area artist with a background in costume and clothing design. In an attempt to improve her ability to paint and design flowers for the creation of fabric and surface design, Lotta-Sellars began taking botanical drawing and painting classes at SF Botanical Garden.  She was won over by the wonderful subject matter and has been pursuing botanical painting since. In her collection Plants in Transition the artist explores the cycles of life and death through plant material.  I might see a small insignificant plant item and be drawn to it for its simplicity, or its complexity,” explains Lotta-Sellars.  “Lifting the humble to a place of prominence through artistic expression is a joy for me.  The strength in the waning plant giving nourishment and continuity, and the promise of future in the waxing plant appeal to me.”
