Overview

This trip is a great way to experience the Bay Trail by bike along the shoreline of San Mateo, Foster City and Redwood City. Begin in the Eucalyptus groves of Coyote Point Park and follow a wide paved trail to Shoreline Park, across an award-winning bicycle/pedestrian bridge, around Seal Point Park for expansive views of the bay, and past the San Mateo Bay Marshes boardwalk and overlook. Entering Foster City, ride under the San Mateo Bridge and continue along the paved shoreline path for several miles along the city’s outer levee. Crossing Belmont Slough into Redwood City over the bicycle/pedestrian bridge at Oracle, continue on paved and gravel shoreline trails around the Redwood Shores peninsula through business parks and residential neighborhoods. At the tip of the peninsula, observation platforms provide overlooks of the Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge. Heading towards San Carlos along the edge of Steinberger Slough, enjoy views of Bair Island. The trail terminates in a hotel parking lot at the northern edge of the San Carlos Airport. Connect to Caltrain stations at both ends of the trip.
