Overview

The 2 1/2  mile section of this appealing trail south of the park is less heavily used, being mostly unpaved hard gravel not open to bicycles. Both sections have no benches en route, and are marred by traffic noise from Sir Francis Drake Boulevard just across Papermill Creek. But it’s a very pretty walk, with varied vegetation and birds. From the main trailhead, you pass at first in deep shade under tall redwoods, then pass in and out of bay and madrone forest, with views down on the stream running parallel to the trail.

Details: It should be possible to park along Sir Francis Drake Blvd to avoid the parking fee at S P Taylor Park. Dogs on leash are permitted; bikes are not. Restrooms, picnic facilities and a nice campground are at the park.
