Here are selected photos from the Bay Nature Publisher’s Circle hike at Rockville Trails with Solano Land Trust on the sunny day of May 11, 2013. Our hike of approximately five miles through quintessential inner coast range oak woodlands and grasslands afforded us expansive views of the surrounding hills and valleys. Local botanic expert Bert Johnson helped us distinguish between interior live oaks, coast live oaks, blue oaks, and valley oaks, and then to get confused by all the promiscuity occurring among them.Much of the property consisted of grasslands that were once used for grazing.Lead docent James Chang described aspects of the trail to us while we enjoyed the shade of an oak tree.Developers once planned to flatten the hills and fill in the valleys to build homes here, but now Solano Land Trust is preserving the land in perpetuity.
