Cal Academy Ant Exhibit

April 1, 2004

On May 1, the California Academy of Sciences will open its new (temporary) doors at 875 Howard Street in downtown San Francisco. As it rebuilds its Golden Gate Park location, more than 85 percent of the animals from the permanent site, as well as 18 million specimens from its research collection, will be relocated to the downtown museum. The first new exhibit on display at the Howard Street site will be Ants: Hidden Worlds Revealed. The exhibit will feature live ant colonies, four of which are commonly found in California. Visitors will be able to explore the complex communities of the honeypot, carpenter, harvester, and invasive Argentine ants, among others. Cal Academy will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, visit www.calacademy.org or call (415)750-7145.
