Naturalist’s Notebook: Thrush Henge

Your local birds: a sort of calendar.

January 3, 2023
Thrushes are ground-feeding birds that you can use to mark the seasons.
In the winter, we welcome back varied thrushes, which were summering in deep northern forests.
In winter we also say goodbye to Swainson's Thrushes, which are headed south to warmer climes.
We also welcome back hermit thrushes, which fly our way from across Canada, Alaka and the Rocky Mountains. Some of them keep going down to Mexico.
