The Friends of the Regional Parks Botanic Garden is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the Regional Parks Botanic Garden in its work of public education, horticultural development, and conservation. The Garden is a beautiful 10-acre living museum of California native plants located in the hills above Berkeley, California, and open to the public daily. The Garden also offers free weekend tours and fee-based classes.

A Lifetime at the Garden

Lifelong Bay Area resident Stephen Edwards has run the botanic garden in Tilden Park since 1983. Well-versed in geology as well as botany, Edwards says, “My main goal in life is to improve the botanic garden without harming its delicate, historic character. The garden still sweeps me away.”

The Regional Parks Botanic Garden—Northern California’s only public garden focused on our state’s native plants—is a center for conservation, research, and public education. Rare and endangered plants from around the state have found a refuge here. And thousands of children and adults alike have walked the garden’s paths, under the spell of our native flora.
