Felicia Mello covers UC Berkeley and other East Bay colleges as Berkeleyside’s senior reporter for higher education. She works in partnership with Open Campus, a nonprofit newsroom focused on strengthening higher education coverage in local communities. Felicia has written about education, inequality and the California dream for CalMatters, The Hechinger Report and The New York Times, among other publications. At CalMatters, she founded the College Journalism Network, an innovative fellowship program that trains student journalists to cover higher education from the ground up. Felicia is a graduate of Berkeley High School, where she learned to express herself and question authority, and holds a master’s degree from the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism.
