Bay Nature Local Hero Awards 2024

Connect with the Bay Nature community and celebrate San Francisco Bay Area environmental leaders at Bay Nature’s 14th annual Local Hero Awards. This event will take place at the David Brower Center in Berkeley on Sunday, April 7 from 2-6 pm. Our annual awards celebration and fundraiser will be held in the Brower Center’s beautiful auditorium, followed by an outdoor reception on the terrace.

The Local Hero Awards highlight the individuals, communities, organizations, and agencies that make local nature and environmental issues tangible parts of everyday life. Join us!

Early bird tickets are $125 and are available until March 5. Regular tickets are $175 and include reserved priority seating with a parking pass. The Local Hero Awards sell out annually and auditorium seating at the David Brower Center is limited, so we encourage you to register today.

This year’s extraordinary local heroes, selected from nearly 100 nominations, are:

• Community Hero: Yakuta Poonawalla, Associate Director, Community Stewardship and Engagement, Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy
• Environmental Educator: Dr. Katharyn Boyer, Professor of Biology, San Francisco State University, Interim Executive Director, Estuary & Ocean Science Center
• Young Leader: Naji Lockett, Conservation Crew Supervisor, Civicorps
• Conservation Action: Kellyx Nelson, Executive Director, San Mateo Resource Conservation District
