While many may think of Bay Street in Emeryville as a convenient upscale shopping mall, did you that it is actually built on top of a Native American shellmound, the sacred burial site of the Lisjan Ohlone? During this in-person tour, we’ll investigate the pre-history of this area during the last ice age, imagine what Lisjan Ohlone’s lives might have been like along the bay’s shoreline, and shed light on how Spanish and white colonists changed Bay Street to become the consumerism hub we see today. We will delve into the current infrastructure while connecting to its Ohlone history.
In addition, we encourage you to check out this tour on Pocketsights!
