Farm Nature Walk at the UCSC Farm

Saturday, March 23 @ 9:30 am - 12:00 pm

Free

Join us for a lovely springtime farm nature walk! Learn more and register here.

During this free event, we’ll discuss the wildlife, plant life, and ecosystems of the Santa Cruz Mountains and agricultural systems alike as we go on a stroll through the UCSC Farm. We’ll spend time bird watching, investigating signs for critters, and looking at agroecological practices that enhance biodiversity on the farm, such as barn owl boxes – which we will look at and discuss together.

This event is led by Chad Moura (wildlife biologist and Natural Reserve System staff), Ximena Moura (Center for Agroecology), and James Nakahara (Friends of the Farm & Garden).

The event will begin at the Hay Barn before we head up to the farm. Things to bring: Layered clothing, and sturdy closed-toed shoes. Binoculars are encouraged but not required. In the case of rain, this event will shift to an indoor presentation with a Q&A session and an owl box demonstration. We will be walking on uneven terrain and up mild slopes during our nature walk.

Presented by the Friends of the UCSC Farm & Garden. Learn about becoming a member and sign up here. Email agroecology@ucsc.edu with accommodation requests.
