Spring Lake Spring Birding

Join Teresa & Miles Tuffli (I’m Birding Right Now) for a guided birding walk on May 5, 2024 (Sunday) @ 8:30 AM – 11:30 AM at Spring Lake Regional Park in Santa Rosa, California. PLEASE NOTE: SPECIFIC MEETING LOCATION DETAILS BELOW.

No binoculars? No problem! We can provide quality binoculars courtesy of Vortex Optics if you’d like to borrow a pair. Beginners are encouraged — we want to help you get out and appreciate the bird world. Don’t be shy if you’ve never birded before — that’s what we’re here for! (All experience levels are welcome though.)

Let’s get outdoors and connect with nature via the birds! Spring Lake offers an incredibly bird-rich habitat. During spring season, birds are quite vocal and visible since it’s breeding season… let’s explore who we might find!

We’ll slowly meander along the mostly paved Spring Lake Loop Trail as it winds around the lake. We’ll look at, listen to, and identify a variety of songbirds, raptors, water-loving species, and anything else that pops up. As we walk and stop frequently to enjoy the birds we encounter, we’ll discuss a variety of topics, such as: techniques for locating birds, what sorts of details to notice when observing a bird, species identification, bird vocalizations, and bird behavior and habitats.

Specific Meeting Location: Spring Lake Regional Park has 2 entrances — please enter via the North Entrance (393 Violetti Road, Santa Rosa, CA 95409). Specifically, we will meet in the largest main parking lot north of the swimming lagoon — after you pass the entry kiosk off Violetti Road, take the first RIGHT TURN into a large parking lot. Parking Fee: Unless you have a Sonoma County Regional Parks annual pass, you will need to pay a $7 parking fee at the entry kiosk.

Cost: $25/person. (10% of your payment goes back to Sonoma County Regional Parks.) However, we don’t want anyone to miss out on the joy of birding due to disposable income concerns, so please contact us directly (imbirdingrightnow@gmail.com) if the cost is an issue for you.

Accessibility Information: Though we’ll be walking slowly, for those with mobility issues, please be aware that sections of the trail have some incline/decline. The total walking distance will be about 2.5 miles.

Cancellation/Refunds: Cancellations before 48 hours of the event start-time will receive a refund for the ticket price ($25/person). Eventbrite fees are non-refundable.

Weather: This walk will proceed in the event of light rain. We will cancel the event if there is considerable rain in the forecast, and payments will be refunded.
