Womxn in the Weeds Workday at Pearson-Arastradero

December 9, 2023 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Free

Calling all women and non-binary identifying community members! Join Peninsula Open Space Trust and Grassroots Ecology for an affinity group event to restore California habitat at Pearson-Arastradero Preserve. Our facilitators have years of experience building welcoming and inclusive spaces for community members. This space will be held for cisgender women, transgender women, and nonbinary people to gather and develop a sense of belonging in the outdoors.

It’s Planting Season! Volunteers will be planting California native plants in our restoration zones within Arastradero Preserve. This work will involve using garden tools to dig holes in the ground and plant. Expect to spend much time sitting or kneeling on the ground. In addition, we will be lifting, carrying buckets of water, bending, and walking on uneven terrain.

Pearson-Arastradero Preserve has expansive oak woodlands and grasslands with beautiful trees and wildflowers and is home to an abundance of wildlife, including deer, bobcats, coyotes, and many species of birds and insects. The work you do will support the health of the preserve’s ecosystems!

Visit Grassroots Ecology’s Pearson-Arastradero Preserve webpage to learn more about the ecosystem and accessibility considerations. We will release more details closer to the date of the event. Keep an eye out for an email containing information about what to bring, wear, etc!

Grassroots Ecology is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to caring for public lands and waters across Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties. Each year they engage thousands of people in hands-on education and service that improves our local environment.

Grassroots Ecology’s aim is to restore natural functions to the ecosystem by keeping invasive plants in check, growing locally native plants at their nursery, supporting stream restoration and fish passage projects, and planting a diversity of species in order to feed wildlife. Please also note that this activity is best for children ages 14+. All minors must be accompanied by adults for the entirety of the event. Thank you!
