Join us for open networking, plus a roundtable discussion on methods for harnessing and converting energy from ocean waves, plus our steady and predictable San Francisco Bay tidal system. We will also explore creating a concepting phase development team + pursuing DOE funding.
Our speaker Kevin Cameron will describe ocean energy capture/conversion based on Salter’s Duck technology, AKA the Edinburgh duck, which was invented by climate change leader (and recently deceased) Stephen Salter in response to the oil shortage of the 1970s.
Salter’s Duck was one of the earliest generator designs proposed to the Wave Energy programme in the United Kingdom. Despite proven high efficiency in test environments, funding was halted in the 1980s after oil prices rebounded and the UK government shifted away from alternative energy sources.
Roundtable Topics:
* Investment by state of California to study wind and wave power tech
* Overview of Salter’s Duck
* Adapting Duck tech for CA coast and SF Bay tidal environments
* Additional methods for wave and tidal conversion
* Creating a Concept Phase development team
* Grant monies to fund the effort–such as HeroX Power at Sea and others
